80% sleep?

recently i've been experimenting with sleep. i used to sleep 9–10 hours a day, but couldn't get enough work done. i've always wanted to wake up early. i set alarms for 8 am, but end up snoozing them and waking up at 11, and cursing myself.

recently i came across this idea where you treat your sleep as a recovery %. if you sleep 8–9 hours, you are at 100% efficiency for the next day. but is trading off that extra hour worth it?

what if you sleep 6–7 hours a day? you might be at 80% recovery, but going through your day with 80% recovery and maybe 1–2 extra hours is probably a good trade-off. sure, you're gonna feel more tired than usual, but you got caffeine ;)

you get 1–2 hours extra work done and honestly, from my POV, it's absolutely worth it. interesting way to think about sleep from now on.

note: the recovery percentages are just hypothetical, not actual measurements. the CDC recommends at least seven hours of sleep for adults, and caffeine doesn't replace sleep.
